The maths
wagering base = bonus (or bonus + deposit, per the terms) required = base x multiple turnover = required / contribution (a game counting 10% needs 10x the stakes) expected loss = turnover x (1 - RTP) expected value = bonus - expected loss bets = turnover / bet size
Example: a 100 USD bonus with 35x wagering on the bonus, played on a 96% RTP slot that counts 100%: turnover 3,500 USD, expected loss 3,500 x 0.04 = 140 USD, so the bonus is worth about 100 - 140 = -40 USD on average. The same bonus at 10x would be worth +60 USD.
Assumptions and what this ignores
- Average, not your result. Expected loss is the long-run average. Any single attempt can finish well above or below it - see the bankroll simulator.
- Busting early. If your balance hits zero before wagering is complete, you stop losing. With high-volatility games this makes the real EV somewhat better than the simple formula; with low volatility, closer to it.
- Max cashout caps. Many bonuses cap what you can withdraw from bonus winnings. A cap cuts off the big wins that the average relies on, so it makes the real EV worse.
- Sticky bonuses. If the bonus itself is removed at withdrawal, subtract it from the expected value.
- Max bet and excluded games. Breaking these terms usually voids winnings, which this calculator cannot model.
- RTP is the game's configured RTP. Some games ship in several RTP versions; check the info screen in the casino, not a review site.
