USDT TRC-20 vs ERC-20 vs BEP-20 for casino payments
Most crypto casinos accept USDT on several networks, and the deposit screen asks you to choose one. The choice changes the fee, how long you wait and, if you get it wrong, whether you get the money back at all. All numbers below were measured or read on 27 October 2026; fees move, so re-check before a large transfer.
At a glance

How the fees work
TRON: energy and bandwidth
A USDT transfer on TRON needs about 64,285 energy if the recipient already holds USDT, or about 130,285 if it has never held any, plus roughly 345 bytes of bandwidth. If the sender has staked or rented energy, the transfer can cost nothing. Without it, TRON burns TRX at the current price of 100 sun per energy unit: about 6.4 TRX or 13 TRX. At the CoinGecko TRX price on the same day ($0.33), that is about $2.10 or $4.30. Every account gets 600 free bandwidth points a day, which covers one transfer’s bandwidth. The full mechanics are in TRON fees explained.
Ethereum: gas
On Ethereum you pay gas: a base fee set by the protocol and burned, plus an optional tip. The price rises when the network is busy, as ethereum.org’s gas page explains. In 15 recent USDT transfers we sampled from a public node at 17:19 UTC on 27 October 2026, gas used was 41,309 to 63,209 units and the median fee was about 0.00011 ETH, or $0.25 at that day’s price. That was a quiet moment. There is no fixed Ethereum fee, so look at a gas tracker or your wallet’s estimate when you send.
BNB Smart Chain: gas, but cheap
BNB Smart Chain uses the same gas model, but the gas price on our node was 0.05 gwei. Fifteen sampled USDT transfers used 29,691 to 51,627 gas, a median fee of about 0.0000027 BNB, a fraction of a cent.
Confirmations and finality
A transaction in a block can in theory still be reversed by a reorganisation until it is final. TRON blocks arrive about every 3 seconds and become solid after about 19 blocks. Ethereum blocks come every 12 seconds; when we checked, the latest finalised block was 89 blocks, about 18 minutes, behind the head. BNB Chain says BSC blocks reach finality in about 0.65 seconds under normal conditions. Casinos pick their own confirmation thresholds, so a deposit can show as pending longer than the chain itself needs. Our withdrawal verifier shows whether a transaction is on chain and confirmed.
Contract addresses
Before adding a token manually to a wallet, compare the contract with these:
| TRON | TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t |
| Ethereum | 0xdAC17F958D2ee523a2206206994597C13D831ec7 |
| BNB Smart Chain | 0x55d398326f99059fF775485246999027B3197955 |
The TRON and Ethereum contracts are listed on Tether’s supported protocols page, and Etherscan labels the Ethereum one Tether USD with 6 decimals. BNB Smart Chain is not listed there for USDT. The BSC contract above reported the name Tether USD and symbol USDT when we queried it directly, and it is described as a token issued by Binance against USDT deposits (Coinranking). It trades at one dollar, but you are relying on Binance as well as Tether.
The wrong-network trap
A TRON address starts with T, so most wallets refuse to send ERC-20 or BEP-20 tokens to it. Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain addresses look identical: the same 0x string is valid on both. If the casino gives you an ERC-20 address and you send BEP-20 USDT, the wallet will happily do it. The tokens arrive at that address, but on a chain the casino may not be watching.
- Before sending: match the network name in your wallet or exchange to the one on the deposit screen, word for word. Send a small test amount first when using a new address.
- To your own wallet: if you control the private key, add the other network in the same wallet and the funds are there.
- To a casino or exchange: contact support with the transaction hash, network, amount and deposit address. Recovery is possible only if they control the key for that address on that chain and are willing to do it; some charge a fee, and smart-contract deposit addresses may not be recoverable at all.
Which to choose
- Small amounts: a network where the total fee, including the casino’s fee, is a small share of the transfer. On 27 October 2026 that pointed to BEP-20, or TRC-20 when the sender had energy; check which networks the casino actually offers for withdrawals, not only deposits.
- Large amounts: the network fee matters less than issuer and support risk. Tether-issued USDT on TRON or Ethereum avoids the extra pegging layer; a fee of a few dollars is small next to that.
- Always: withdraw to an address you control and have used before on the same network. See self-custody wallets for withdrawals.
FAQ
Is USDT on TRON, Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain the same coin?
They are worth the same dollar but are separate tokens on separate blockchains. Tether lists USDT contracts for TRON and Ethereum on its own site. The USDT token most wallets show on BNB Smart Chain is a pegged token issued by Binance, not one listed by Tether. Tokens cannot move between chains by a normal transfer.
Which network is cheapest for a casino withdrawal?
It changes with network load and token prices. In our measurement on 27 October 2026, a USDT transfer cost well under one cent on BNB Smart Chain, around $0.25 on Ethereum, and about $2 to $4 on TRON if the sender had no energy and burned TRX. The casino usually sets its own withdrawal fee per network, which often matters more than the network cost.
I sent USDT on the wrong network. Is it lost?
Not always. If the receiving address is controlled by the same private key on the other chain, as with your own wallet or an exchange that supports both chains, the funds can usually be recovered. If the casino’s deposit system does not support that chain, recovery depends entirely on its support team and may not be possible.
Can I tell ERC-20 and BEP-20 addresses apart?
No. Both are 0x followed by 40 hexadecimal characters, and the same string is a valid address on both chains. Only the network selected in the deposit screen tells you which one the casino expects.
